Class of 2020 College Decisions
Girard College is proud to announce the postsecondary education plans for the mighty Class of 2020! These 32 graduates are ready to take the next step in their academic career and apply the lessons and values learned at Girard to the wider world.
Typically College Decision Day is held on May 1, but with the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic, many colleges and universities extended their decision deadlines. Even in the midst of this uncertainty, the members of the Class of 2020 stayed focused on making the best choice for their future.
“I am so proud of the Class of 2020,” said Dr. Michelle T. Williams, Dean of High School. “All of the students really pulled together and showed great resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges that altered the trajectory of their senior year. I wish them all the best and can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.”

Many of the graduating seniors earned scholarships that solidified the ability for them to enroll at their school of first choice. Class Valedictorian Henroy Mitchell-Collins ’20 earned the Gates Scholarship, a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with which he will attend the University of Virginia. Salutatorian Mbornie Conteh ’20 will attend Howard University on the university’s Leadership Scholarship.
Each student worked closely with Tammi Schulman, College and Career Advisor, to narrow down which school was the best choice for them, taking into account their projected course of study as well as financial considerations.
“Our students have a lot of opportunities in their choice of schools,” said Schulman, “so my job is to help them figure out what is the best fit to continue their education while setting them up to successfully complete their degrees.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
